Mixed Media Artist

Utilizing gesture and color to evoke an atmospheric mood, I create an experience resembling both the ethereal and terrestrial. It is an examination of place, time, and the interiors of our minds. Much of my recent work incorporates fungal forms as a symbol of death, resilience, and the decomposition of one thing to bring life to another. These three-dimensional fungi are cut and sewn from canvas to represent the interdependence of all life forms. Sewing into the canvas with thread and beads symbolizes the interwoven nature of life while allowing for a more intimate relationship with the artwork.

In seeking new ways to produce paintings that move beyond the two-dimensional canvas and into the three-dimensional world, these forms expand from the constraints of the picture plane, reaching into the tangible. Tactile elements emerge and recede from the surface, sometimes imitating paint or beads of water, blurring the lines of reality and illusion, challenging viewers to look beyond the macrocosm and into the microcosm.
