Tangled (Hydrodictyon Reticulum)
I want to draw a parallel between invasive forms in nature with the invasive extortion of natural resources, the intersection being the human influence. Inspired by the net-like structures of hydrodictyon algae, this was knit with plastic bags. Plastics and microplastics litter our earth and oceans, while the extraction of the petroleum used to create this product is deteriorating our ozone and causing the earth’s warming. With these warming waters, algae-like hydrodictyon grow more rapidly and are harder to get rid of, consequently making it difficult to produce hydroelectric energy or for marine creatures to move through the waters.
